The Salcantay - Machu Picchu path is one of the amazing Inca Roads which starting from the shores of the Pacific Ocean, climb up to the highlands of the impressive Salcantay Mountain Range crosses and spectacular pass and then descend to the green lush cloudforest of the Machu Picchu region. It is in fact one of the most scenic Inca Trails! Day 1. Cusco - Marcocasa - Soraypampa: We leave Cusco early in the morning driving towards the small village of Marcocasa high above the Apurimac River gorge. From here we start our first day trek towards our camp at Soraypampa. The trek will traverse beautiful highlands at the base of the snow capped Mount Tucarhuay (5910m/19385ft) and then heading towards our camp with the amazing view of the west face of the high Mount Salcantay (6264m/20546ft). Camp. LB, D. Day 2. Soraypampa - Chaullay: In our second day we start climbing up to 4700m to the sacred pass at the base of Salcantay. From this point we get a wonderful view of Mounts Salcantay, Humantay and far away we can observe the Vilcabamba Range . Then we descend to the valley of Huayrapampa and following the side of the deep gorge of the Salcantay River we continue down to the small setlement of Chaullay. Camp. B, LB, D. Day 3. Chaullay - La Playa: From Chaullay our trek will lead us down to the warmer cloud forest area of the place know as La Playa. We will cross green lands covered by flowers, trees. Later on we can find plantations of coffe, sugar cane, cacao and other tropical plants. Camp at the shores of the Santa Teresa River. B, LB, D. Day 4. La Playa - Llactapacta - Aguas Calientes: This day and following the Inca road, our trek climbs up to the Inca Ruins of Llactapacta from where and weather permitting we can enjoy a wonderful view of the northwest side of Machu Picchu. Then we desced to the place known as la Hidrolectrica from where we take the train to the town of Aguas Calientes. Hotel accommodations. B, LB. Day 5. Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco: In order to avoid the crowd, early in the morning we will take the first bus to Machu Picchu. We spend a full morning visiting this amazing city and perhaps we will climb to the summit of the Huayna Picchu Hill from where we get an extraordinary view of the world famous Inca citadel. In the afternoon we take our train back to Cusco. End of services. B. Included: transport to trek start point, professional trekking guide, cook, horses to carry equipment & luggage, all meals as mentioned, complete camping equipment. Not included: Personal trekking gear, personal expenses, extras and tips, train back packer, trail and Machu Picchu entrance fee.
