| Cordillera de Huayhuash Trekking (17 days / 16 nights) The Peruvian Cordillera de Huayhuash trekking tour (190 km) is known as one of the most spectacular and beautiful trekkings in the world. Moment after moment you will enjoy great views at immense rock formations, huge glaciers and high snow capped peaks. The environment is even more amazing for its turqoise colored lakes and the fascinating condor birds, circling at high altitudes around the mountains. in our Cordillera de Huayhuash trekking we will follow the Mahuay village, a higher alternative and more spectacular route to the traditional via Llamac village. Day 1: Arrival in Lima, the capital of Peru. Transfer to your hotel.. Day 2: By car, early departure towards Huaraz, the "alpine" town located at the foothills of the Cordillera Blanca. Hotel accommodation. Day 3: Acclimatization day. We make a day trip to Llanganuco Lakes for a day hike to enjoy great views of Mount Huascaran, Chacraraju, Huandoy and other beautiful surrounding mountains. Day 4: Huaraz - Mahuay: Transport to the town of Chiquian (3300m) and then to the small town of Q´ero, the start point for our trekking. From Chiquian we already can see the magnificent peaks of the range. The first day trek will take us to the small village of Mahuay (3750m). (B,L,D). Day 5: Mahuay - Matacancha camp. After crossing 2 high passes over 4700m and enjoying the first serious views of the magnificent Huayhuash range we descend to our camp at Matacancha at 4100 m. This will be a long 8-9 hour trekking day. Day 6: Matacancha - Mitucocha: The day starts with a beautiful and exciting high pass on Cacanampunta at 4750 m. Then we descend to our camp at the shores of the beautiful Mitucocha lake at 4100 m. Great views of mounts Ninashanca, Rondoy and Jirishanca. Day 7: Mitucocha - Carhuacocha. Today we will head along the impressive Carhuac highpass at 4600m with amazing views of the spectacular glaciers of mounts Jirishanca and Pequeño Jerupaja. Descend to our camp at the spectacular Carhuacocha lake with impressive views of the east sides of mounts Jerupaja and Siula Grande. Camp at 4100m. Day 8: Carhuacocha - Huayhuash: This day starts with a climb up to the 4850m Carnicero pass then we descent to the small setlement of Huayhuash. Great views of mounts Carnicero, Sarapo and Trapecio. Camp at 4100m. Day 9: Huayhuash - Viconga Lake: Trek up to the Huayhuash pass at 4600m. From here our descend to Laguna Viconga gives wonderful views of the Cordillera Raura. Camp at the hot water springs (4150m). Day 10: Resting day. Enjoy the surroundings, the hot water springs and my be try to climb the 5450 meters Mount Pumarikri ("ears of puma"), a nice snow caped mountain. Day 11: Viconga camp - Guanacpatay camp: Trek up to the highest pass of the entire loop: the spectacular Cuyuc pass at 5050m. We enjoy excellent views of the Puscanturpa massif. Then we will descend down to the Guanapactay gorge until we reach our camp at 3900m. Day 12: Guanacpatay - Huayllapa Village: Morning trek down the Guanacpatay valley until we reach the pass leading us to the Huayllapa gorge. This trek follows a beautiful mountain side to finally reach the small village of Huayllapa. Day 13: Huatyaj Camp: After breakfast we will head up to the pass at Tapush (4800m) from where we will descend to our next camp at the place known as Huatyaj at 4100m on the Cashpapampa valley. Great views of Mount Diablo Mudo and other beautiful mountains. Day 14: Jahuacocha Camp: This day starts with a climb to the last high last pass of the trek (Yauche pass at 4600m). From here, the path descends steeply to the beautiful Laguna Jaguacocha. Camp at 4050m. This is one of the most beautiful spots of the entire trip with great views of mounts Rondoy, Jirishanca, Yerupaja and Rasak. Day 15: Jahuacocha - Llamac - Huaraz: Our last trekking day will take us to the small town of Llamac (2900m). We will follow the shores of the Llamac River until we reach the small village from where our private transport will take us back to the town of Chiquian and then to the city of Huaraz. Hotel. Day 16: Huaraz - Lima: Transport to Lima. Hotel. Day 17: Transfer out. Included: all transfers, private transportation, profesional guide, complete camping equipment, cook, helpers, meals on the mountains, hotel accommodations. |
